Called my Dr about this weekend...

I called my Dr about this weekend and spoke with one of the "not so nice" nurse's... The office had heard that I had been into L&D but didn't know the details yet. So I gave her the Cliff Notes Version and she went and ran everything by the Doc. He said that because of the weather (it's snowing like heck here and the roads are horrible) he'd rather I stay in today and not be driving, and that everything sounds like it picked up after the OJ. (Which I had tried earlier in the day twice and didn't work - but who knows)... I had mentioned to her about the protein/glucose in the urine, but either she didn't mention it to him or he wasn't concerned (which I suppose it isn't a big deal, really - no visual changes, BP was OK). So unless Scott is driving (which he won't be home until 2ish because of overtime) it looks like I'm stuck inside the house...which stinks since I wanted to go do a little minor shopping today...but at least it's not bed rest! :-)

Hiccups

Today Meghan had her first (noticeable) hiccups! Awww :-P

A few hours in L&D later...

I spent 2 hours in Labor and Delivery EARLY Sunday morning (12:10a-2:00a). When I left work Saturday night I made the realization that I hadn't felt Meghan move since that afteroon...and I actually had ice cream that night, so I know she should have been bouncing around (she loves sugar *smile*)... I called L&D to see what their thoughts were...whether I should call Dr Evanczyk tonight, tomorow or what... I spoke with an INCREDIBLE nurse (named Jen) who after hearing the history told me to come right in. I got there at 12:10. They had me give a urine specimen (traces of glucose (new) and protein (not a new thing)... She took my blood pressure (138/84...not bad for where I've been), noted the swelling I was having and then hooked me up to the monitor... Meghan did not want her heartrate to be found. 15 minutes later, she relented. She had managed to skootch herself all the way into my left rib area... Her heartrate was between 160-190...She had periodic drops into the 90's, however, the RN wasn't concerned. They made me drink more OJ, made me eat a sandwich (that I almost puked up on them - not good) and then drink more water... About 10 minutes after the OJ Meghan started beating the heck right out of the monitoring dopplers :-P They talked to the Dr on call who told me that I was able to go home, but to make sure to call Dr E on Monday as I may be needing bed rest thanks to the urinary symptoms and swelling that I had. So that's the update for now... I'll know more on Monday.

31 Week Appointment

Today's appointment went really well. Thankfully I don't have to go back for 2 more weeks. He wants me to continue whatever it is I did in the last week to ensure that the blood pressure stays down, and the swelling stays down. My fingerstick glucose levels were good as well, he said. B/P today was 136/84...still a little high, but nowhere near what it had been...(especially last week's). I lost two pounds in one week...but they feel that was from swelling from the water retention.

My gallbladder is starting to show signs of acting up...but not horribly...

Meghan's heartrate was 135-145...which is good :-) She actually cooperated with the doppler today - only kicking it once!

Ultrasound

Today's ultrasound went well...Meghan is still a Meghan :-)

She didn't like the ultrasound wand and to show her disproval, she continued to kick it throughout :-) We got a nice profile picture...only image from this ultrasound.

She's weighing in at 4lbs0oz. Which is up 10oz from 2 1/2 weeks ago... She's also already measuring 2 weeks ahead :-)

30 Week Appointment

I will never again ask "what's next?". I found out. My blood pressure at today's appointment was 152/96. Way too high. Add to that the headaches and swelling and you have the Dr telling you that not only are you heading for toxemia and possibly bed rest/hospitalization, but you're being put on blood pressure medication. It's better than the bed rest that the nurse wanted me to consider doing today. The nurse, it seems, feels that I shouldn't even be working with all of the issues I've been having and is impressed that I still am. We have another Ultrasound on Friday (because of the diabetes) and I had more bloodwork and urine samples taken today (because I also now have protein in my urine)...and I have to do another 24 hour urine sample. I will continue with checking my blood pressure and will check the sugar 4 times a day (at least they didn't put me on insulin...I think I would have lost it at that point)...I have an appointment in 1 week to determine if the medication is working and then I guess they'll go from there.

The good news was that I'm only up 4 lbs total from pre-pregnancy weight. That and Meghan wanted NOTHING TO DO with the doppler...she kept moving away from it and actually kicked it a few times (or hit it?)... :-)

THEN we go to the lab to get the blood drawn - there was only one phlebotomist working and she was dealing with a difficult patient and as I'm sitting in the waiting room I can feel myself ready to pass right the heck out (thanks to the nerves the baby is sitting on) and the registrar keeps asking questions that are already in the system...it's not as though I'm a new patient. I feel like crap, I'm all flushed and she asks me if I'm "cold"...no, I just don't feel well and this is all information that's already in the system...so I sign the paper and sit down...FINALLY they call me in and I get everything done...so we move on to Eckerd's to get the prescription filled. I've been to Eckerd's in the last year more than I've been there in probably 10, so when they ask me if I've been there before, the answer is of course, yes. Well, 20 minutes later Scott and I stop to pick up the prescription and apparently the lady doesn't see me because she says to Scott, "the woman who dropped this off said she had been here before and she's not in our system so she's obviously mistaken"... *GRRRRR* At which point I tell her to look again because I've been there quite a few times between their store and the Chestnut St store. She finally finds me in the system (doesn't bother to apologize) and then tells us it will be another 15 minutes. I'm already cutting it close to being late for work...and I'm fuming. So we leave the "convinience" of the drive-thru pickup and I storm in to the store. (Cell Phone was lost somewhere in that shuffle...still haven't found it - not that it's working anway) I finally get to pick up the medication and she tells me that it's "early" because it had a pick up time of "16:15"...Which is 4:15... We dropped it off at 3:00 and were told it would take 15 minutes...hmmm...so I informed her of that, paid my copay and left.

Thankfully I made it on time to work, but I'm sure my blood pressure is still up there... *sigh* So we go back in a week for more "revelations"...

They only come in three's, right?

*sigh* So this morning I had a message to call my OB's office. I call and talk to Diana (one of the best nurses you could ever have) and ask her what's going on, because lately she only calls with bad news. :-) She apologizes and says that she begged the Dr not to make her call me because yet again? More bad news. Not horrible, but not what I was looking for... Turns out when the U/S tech kept saying "you sure this doesn't hurt?" it was because there are quite a few stones in my gallbladder. Enough is enough. It was tolerable to have the Pregnancy Induced Hypertension...it was annoying to find out about the Gestational Diabetes...but now my Gallbladder?! WTF?! I have a surgical consult on the 8th of February at 10am...here in Oneonta. Diana feels that they'll wait until after Meghan gets here...I'm hoping she's right.

On the flip side, I saw the nutritional counselor who yelled at me for not eating enough food...she also made me feel like I'm already a bad mother because I drink ONE soda a day (that my Dr said was OK)... "Did you know that one juice glass worth of soda can raise your blood sugar 50pts? Think of what that does to your baby!" Gee - just the thing to tell to the hormonal pregnant woman who already has enough on her plate. I had a mini breakdown on the way home and now just feel like calling into work, crawling into bed and sleeping for hours.

10 more weeks...10 more weeks...10 more weeks... :-\

The nutritionist called today - I missed the phone call because I was getting ready to go out to lunch, but I called her back before we left... This is how the phone call went - *sigh*

Me: Hi, this is Kerri Harrington, you called?
Nutritionist: Yes...I need to schedule your appointment...I don't have anything until next week - how's Thursday sound?
Me: Next Thursday is good...what time?
Nutritionist: No...this Thursday
Me: Oh - you said next week...
Nutritionist: Well, I meant this Thursday...
Me: OK...what time on Thursday and what can I expect at the first appointment?
Nutritionist: 10am. What we'll discuss is Molly's activity level and her diet.
Me: Who is Molly?
Nutritionist: Oh, this isn't *Jennifer Smith*?
Me: Nooooooooo...this is Kerri Harrington.
Nutritionist: Oh...lemme pull your file.
Me: The gestational diabetes...
Nutritionist: New onset diabetes, right?
Me: Close enough.
Nutritionist: OK... see you Thursday.
Me: Wait, Wait, Wait...what can I expect at the first appointment and will I need to bring anything with me?
Nutritionist: Well, we'll cover your diet and create a food plan.
Me: OK...what about the glucometer they said I would have to use?
Nutritionist: We'll set up another appointment after that to teach you how to use it...that we'll schedule after Thursday.
Me: Can't we just do the Glucometer on this Thursday? I won't need instruction on how to use it, just the supplies.
Nutritionist: Well, we'll discuss it Thursday, it shouldn't be a problem...but we'll cover that when we discuss Molly's activity and diet...

This is when I gave up - I don't know if *I* have an appointment or if *Molly* does, but I suppose we'll see Thursday morning.

But as a note to Reedy - I gotta say, if she's as stupid as it sounds, I wouldn't even let her near YOUR Molly! :-) (the canine variety for the rest of you...)
